UCAN of Douglas County had over 22,000 dinners donated to the organization through the Eugene Giving Machine campaign that wrapped up over the weekend at Valley River Center.
The Giving Machines gave people the opportunity to purchase items that are donated to local and global charities. Brent MacCluer, an organizer with the campaign, said that preliminary numbers show over 2,600 individual items were purchased and donated at the Eugene Giving Machine, a double digit increase over last year’s efforts.
UCAN was one of numerous organizations receiving help. The Community Sharing Program in Cottage Grove received over 160 weeks of diapers. Linn Benton Food Share had over 8,000 pounds of fresh produce donated. More than 140 new mother kits were purchased for Days for Girls and the Catholic Community Services in Springfield received over 45 one-week food packs.
The Giving Machine campaign is a worldwide donation effort through the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints.
