Sutherlin Police jailed a man for a reported assault incident on Saturday night.

An SPD report said at 7:30 p.m. a victim texted a family member to say the man was drunk and was hitting him, in the 800 block of Hastings Avenue. An officer tried to do a welfare check, but the suspect had locked the door. He eventually opened the door and was detained after a struggle.

The suspect, identified as 30-year-old Aaron Gier. He was charged with fourth-degree assault, obstructing government/judicial administration, resisting arrest, interfering with a police officer and harassment. Gier was detained without bail.
