Roseburg Police jailed a man on robbery, trespass and theft charges on Friday afternoon.

An RPD report said just after 4:50 p.m. officers responded to a store in the 2200 block of Northeast Diamond Lake Boulevard after the store owner reported that a male, came into the business and drank a half bottle of wine without paying for it, and then left for a short amount of time. The suspect was later identified as 50-year-old Jose Garcia.

The owner reported that Garcia then reentered the store and attempted to steal another bottle of wine. This time, the store owner grabbed onto the bottle and attempted to gain possession of it, while Garcia held onto it and tried to leave the store with it. The store owner claimed that Garcia used physical force to resist and prevent the store owner from taking the bottle of wine back from him. This reportedly lasted for approximately seven seconds.

The store owner was able to take the bottle of wine and Garcia left the scene on foot. Officers located the suspect a short distance away and detained him without incident. Garcia was charged with third-degree robbery, and two counts each of first-degree criminal trespass and third-degree theft. He was detained on $2,500 bail.
