The Roseburg Police Department is offering safety tips as the winter holidays approach.

*Protect packages: Try to schedule deliveries for times when someone is home, use secure pickup locations when possible, and keep an eye out for suspicious activity in the neighborhood. Report any concerns to non-emergency dispatch at 440-4471.

*Stay safe on the roads: Allow extra travel time and be patient. Roads are sometimes busier during the holidays and weather can be unpredictable. Never drive under the influence of drugs or alcohol.

*Keep the home secure: Lock doors and windows, even if only stepping out briefly. If traveling, avoid posting vacation plans until back in town. Turn off holiday lights before bed or when leaving the home unless the lights are rated for continuous use.
