A driver was taken to the hospital Tuesday after his pickup went down an embankment several hours earlier.

An Oregon State Police report said at 1:15 p.m. the 60-year-old was spotted near the intersection of Highway 138W and Tyee Road in the Oakland area. The man said that early that morning his vehicle had left the roadway and slammed through the guardrail. It came to rest at the bottom of the embankment. He eventually was able to climb up the hill and seek assistance from a passing vehicle.

The man was transported to CHI Mercy Medical Center with injuries. He planned to arrange for a towing company to recover his vehicle.
