SUTHERLIN POLICE JAIL MAN FOR ALLEGED THURSDAY ASSAULT

Sutherlin Police jailed a man Monday for an alleged recent assault.

An SPD report said on Thursday evening at 11:00 p.m. the manager at a motel in the 1300 block of West Central Avenue called 911 to report that two people had gotten into a fight. The victim reportedly sustained an injury to her back and had been strangled. The suspect, later identified as 45-year-old Damien Saltzman left the scene in a pickup and was last seen going south on Interstate 5. The victim was seen by medical personnel and was cleared.

An SPD officer later made contact with Saltzman to discuss the incident. He agreed to meet at the Sutherlin Police station on Friday. Saltzman was taken into custody on Monday and charged with 4th degree assault, a felony count of strangulation, and second-degree disorderly conduct. Bail was set at $10,000.
