The Douglas County Wreaths Across America committee has announced that the John Pierson Memorial Wreaths Across America event will take place on Saturday, December 13th at the Roseburg National Cemetery.

A release said this year’s ceremony will honor the legacy of United States Air Force Veteran, John Pierson whose passion project to ensure every veteran’s grave at the Roseburg National Cemetery receives a wreath every December ignited a local movement. In his memory, the event has been named after him.

There are approximately 7,000 veterans laid to rest at the Roseburg National Cemetery. The group’s goal is to place a wreath on every one of the headstones and to say each hero’s name aloud as participants remember their sacrifice, honor their service, and teach the next generation the value of freedom.

Douglas County Commissioner Chris Boice said, “John Pierson inspired us all with his dedication to our veterans. He wanted every hero remembered with a wreath, and we are committed to keeping that tradition alive”. Boice said the community’s help is needed to sponsor wreaths and to be part of the event on December 13th at 1:00 p.m. To sign up, go to: https://wreathsacrossamerica.org/pages/169419.
