SEMI-TRUCK CARRYING WINE ROLLS ON FREEWAY, SNARLING TRAFFIC FOR HOURS

November 20, 2025 10:40 a.m.

A semi-truck carrying wine rolled on Interstate 5 northbound, snarling traffic for hours on Wednesday.

An Oregon State Police report said just before 9:45 a.m. the driver of a semi-truck rolled about a mile south of the main Sutherlin exit.  The semi came to rest blocking the right lane. The driver was uninjured and cited for failure to maintain a lane.

Witnesses said the top of the semi-trailer came off, sending cases of wine off the side of the road, with some cases going down an embankment. The semi was moved to the shoulder by a towing company, but due to the lengthy cleanup of the mess, it remained there for several hours. Northbound freeway traffic was backed up to a mile north of the Winchester exit at times until later in the day.

The OSP report does not have information on where the wine was coming from or where it was headed.
