A Roseburg man has been charged with attempted murder.

A release from the Douglas County Sheriff’s Office issued Wednesday, said on Sunday, November 9th, deputies responded to the 1300 block of Gazley Road in Myrtle Creek after a caller said there had been an assault. The victim of the assault had been transported to CHI Mercy Medical Center earlier in the night after it was reported that the man may have fallen, but it was determined that the injuries did not match the reported fall.

Due to the severity of the injuries, DCSO detectives responded to the scene. During the course of the investigation, detectives determined that the victim, a 73-year-old Myrtle Creek man, was severely injured. This was after 21-year-old Health Lethlean of Roseburg, broke into Balliew’s residence and assaulted him with an object. Lethlean had fled the scene following the assault.

On Friday, November 14th, Lethlean was contacted and arrested in Roseburg. He was charged with second-degree attempted murder and several other charges. Bail was set at $1 million.

Detectives are continuing the investigation.
