With the holiday season almost here, and local food pantries experiencing record demand following the recent federal government shutdown, Aviva Health, the United Community Action Network and FISH Food Pantry are partnering to host the Umpqua Valley Food Rally on Thursday.
It will take place from 9:00 a.m. to 7:00 p.m. in the Aviva Health parking lot at the Jerry Bruce Community Campus on Northeast Kenneth Ford Drive. Community members are invited to participate through a fast, easy drive-through donation drop-off, accepting both food and monetary contributions. All donations will directly support food pantries across the county.
FISH Food Pantry Executive Director Jenn Reida said, “SNAP delays and disruptions hit low-income families the hardest, especially here in Douglas County, where many households live on tight budgets”. Reida said, “Local food pantries stepped up during the shutdown, but shelves are running low. The Umpqua Valley Food Rally will help us rebuild our supplies, so no family has to struggle during the holidays”
Donors can remain in their vehicles while volunteers unload contributions. Cash and credit card donations will be accepted onsite and used to purchase high-need items for area food banks.
