GOVERNOR KOTEK AGAIN CALLS FOR END TO NATIONAL GUARD DEPLOYMENT

On Monday, Governor Tina Kotek issued a statement in response to a verbal directive from U.S. Army Northern Command to the Oregon National Guard to demobilize 100 National Guard members previously under Title 10 designation, and to extend the deployment of the remaining 100.

A release said it has been eleven days since a federal judge permanently blocked National Guard deployment to Portland. All 200 California National Guard members were scheduled to return to their home state on Monday.

Governor Kotek said, “President Trump’s disregard for the rule of law has real human consequences. Members of the Oregon National Guard, who are our friends and neighbors, have been away from their families and jobs for 50 days on an unnecessary deployment. With the holidays approaching, every single member deserves to go home”.
