A Roseburg man died in a three-vehicle crash in Coos County on Thursday.
An Oregon State Police report said just before 11:00 a.m. troopers responded to the wreck on Highway 42, near milepost 24. That is approximately twenty miles west of the Douglas/Coos county line.
The preliminary investigation revealed that a westbound sedan, operated by 69-year-old John William Henderson, failed to negotiate a curve and entered the eastbound lane. It struck an eastbound commercial motor vehicle pulling double trailers, operated by a Sutherlin man, nearly head-on. A second commercial motor vehicle, driven by a Coquille man, struck a concrete barrier while avoiding the collision.
Henderson was declared deceased after being transported to an area hospital. A passenger in the sedan, 76-year-old William Gene Henderson of Bandon, suffered serious injuries and was transported to an area hospital.
The operators of both commercial motor vehicles were reportedly uninjured.
The highway was impacted for approximately four hours during the on-scene investigation. OSP was assisted by Myrtle Point Fire, Myrtle Point Police Department and the Oregon Department of Transportation.
