The Roseburg Fire Department will be conducting a live fire training exercise at a building at 859 West Lookingglass Road.
It will begin at approximately 8:00 a.m. on Saturday and will continue throughout the day. The exercise will be a joint agency training in conjunction with Central Douglas Fire & Rescue and the Lookingglass Rural Fire District.
Administrative Battalion Chief Chris Galligan said this training opportunity provides the ability to not only train together, but also to improve the effectiveness of interoperability between multiple agencies. Galligan said the hands-on training will allow firefighters the opportunity to gain real world experience in a controlled setting. The training will include multiple scenarios and evolutions focused on firefighter safety and survival practices, rapid fire attack techniques and fire behavior.
Neighboring residents and/or property owners have been notified of what to expect:
*Throughout the training, visible smoke and flames will be seen coming from the structure.
*Expect an increase in noise levels due to fire apparatus, equipment and instructor communications
*Those with respiratory sensitivities, pets, or health concerns may wish to keep windows closed during the training period.
*For the safety of everyone, people should not enter the training area or approach the scene
Galligan said firefighters may remain at the training location for an extended period after training has concluded for site cleanup.
