Sutherlin Police jailed a man after an alleged assault incident on Sunday.

An SPD report said just before 9:00 a.m. an officer responded to a residence in the 100 block of South Comstock Road.

21-year-old Eric Gout had allegedly hit a victim with a board after hitting a dog with the board as well. The victim was reportedly trying to prevent the dog from getting hurt, when she was struck as well. Gout was charged with second-degree assault, attempting to commit a Class C felony, first-degree aggravated animal abuse and unlawful use of a weapon. Gout was detained without bail.
