A Myrtle Creek man was jailed following a reported strangulation incident early Sunday morning.

A Douglas County Sheriff’s Office report said at 1:10 a.m. a deputy responded to a disturbance in the 1000 block of Cook Street in the Myrtle Creek area. A 40-year-old called and said a victim had grabbed a knife and was threatening to cut her wrist. The man called dispatch to request a welfare check on the victim and a juvenile.

The deputy contacted the man near the intersection of Walnut and Old Pacific Highway. He claimed that the victim had pushed him but said he did not want to press charges. The deputy then contacted the victim who claimed the man held her down on the bed by her neck, using the back side of his forearm. Next, the deputy contacted the juvenile who said she saw the man holding the victim down by the neck on the bed. She then called friends to get help.

The deputy then charged the man with a felony count of strangulation. He was detained without bail.
