Personnel with the Roseburg Fire Department responded to a reported natural gas line rupture and a significant leak of natural gas in the 900 block of Southeast Pine Street on Monday.
A release from RFD said crews were called out just after 8:00 a.m. Upon arrival, firefighters determined a 4-inch natural gas line had been damaged.
Administrative Battalion Chief Chris Galligan said firefighters established command, monitored air quality, coordinated evacuation of the State Employment Department office and established a safety corridor. Galligan said fire department personnel also provided traffic control as vehicles were routed around the area. Crews with Avista Utilities worked on the line rupture and leak.
All lanes in the area of Pine Street and Southeast Mosher Avenue were reopened for public use by 3:40 p.m.
Galligan said RFD would like to remind residents to be aware of underground utilities while doing site work and home improvement projects. Before breaking ground, call 811 or go to: www.digsafelyoregon.com
