SUTHERLIN MAN JAILED FOR REPORTED MENACING INCIDENT

October 18, 2025  7:00 a.m.

A Sutherlin man was jailed for a reported menacing incident on Thursday.

A Douglas County Sheriff’s Office report said shortly after 10:00 a.m. deputies responded to a man who was allegedly exposing himself and walking into traffic near Interstate 5 milepost 113 and the 6500 block of Dole Road in the Myrtle Creek area. Upon contact, the man, identified as 39-year-old Chance Davalos, did not follow directives and appeared to be intoxicated. Davalos also seemed to have sustained an injury to his face and was bleeding.

When deputies arrived, the suspect reportedly displayed a knife from his pocket at them. Davalos then allegedly threw the knife towards deputies and ignored commands. Eventually the man obeyed commands and was taken into custody without incident.

It was later determined that Davalos attempted to enter a victim’s truck as he was pulled over on the side of the road. When he did this, the victim drove away, causing Davalos to fall and hit his head on the street. The man was transported to CHI Mercy Medical Center where he was medically cleared before being taken to jail.

Davalos was charged with two counts each of menacing and unlawful use of a weapon, second-degree disorderly conduct and attempted unlawful entry into a motor vehicle. He was detained without bail and was released on Friday.
