SUSPECT AND VEHICLE IN FATAL HIT AND RUN LOCATED

The suspect and vehicle in a recent fatal hit and run crash in Douglas County have been located.

An Oregon State Police report said on Sunday, October 12th at approximately 1:10 a.m. troopers responded to the crash involving a pedestrian on Highway 42 near Grant Smith Road in the Green District.

An investigation indicated that a male pedestrian, 30-year-old Dustin Rios of Canyonville, was in the lane of travel for an unknown reason when he was struck by an eastbound vehicle close to the Taco Bell outlet. A black Honda passenger vehicle fled the area after striking Rios. Despite lifesaving efforts, Rios was declared deceased at the scene.

Troopers had been looking for the suspect vehicle since the crash. On Thursday, 41-year-old Brandon James Jensen was located and taken into custody. Jensen was initially charged with failure to perform the duties of a driver to an injured person, tampering with physical evidence and unlawful possession of methamphetamine. Additional charges of unlawful delivery of methamphetamine, a count of unlawful possession of meth, and unlawful possession of a Schedule II controlled substance have since been added. Bail is set at $35,000.

The Douglas Interagency Narcotics Team and the Douglas County Sheriff’s Office assisted Oregon State Police in making the arrest. No other information regarding Jensen’s arrest was released by OSP.
