Roseburg Police jailed a man following a reported assault incident on Friday night.

An RPD report said shortly after 10:00 p.m. officers responded to Stewart Park in the 2000 block of Northwest Stewart Park Drive after dispatch received calls that a female was screaming for help near the park’s riverbank.

Officers contacted the victim and a 36-year-old man, described as her boyfriend, at their camp. The victim reported being in pain, had bruising on her arm, and informed officers that the man had thrown her to the ground multiple times, holding her there against her will.

Medical personnel arrived on the scene and ultimately transported the victim to CHI Mercy Medical Center for further evaluation. The suspect claimed he had brought the woman to the ground one time, after she had thrown a tire at him. The man was taken into custody without incident. He was charged with fourth-degree assault. Bail was set at $6,250.
