A Grants Pass man was jailed after an elude incident on Saturday.

A Douglas County Sheriff’s Office report said at just after 7:30 p.m. a deputy was traveling northbound in the 2600 block of Old Highway 99 South, south of Roseburg when he noticed a vehicle traveling southbound at 97 miles per hour in a 55 mile per hour zone. He was advised that Oregon State Police just had the vehicle pass a trooper on Interstate Five, traveling at over 120 miles per hour.

The pickup did not stop and continued for just under a mile at speeds between 90 and 40 miles per hour. The vehicle stopped for a moment, that again continued to drive towards the freeway. On the southbound on-ramp at milepost 120, the pickup finally stopped. The driver, a 58-year-old, was detained without incident. The man claimed he was looking for his lost dog and that is why he was speeding.

The driver was charged with attempting to elude police. OSP added a charge of reckless driving from the original incident. The man was detained without bail.
