Deputies with the Douglas County Sheriff’s Office jailed a man who escaped during a court appearance on Tuesday.
A DCSO report issued Wednesday night said at 8:45 a.m. a judge remanded 38-year-old Jesse Dewbre into custody on a felony case at the courthouse on Southeast Douglas Avenue. The court bailiff was headed to the courtroom when Dewbre allegedly took off and ran out of the front of the courthouse. He then reportedly got into a vehicle with another subject, and they took off toward Dewbre’s residence.
Deputies located the suspect outside the home, and he allegedly ran inside. After talking to Dewbre through a bathroom door, he eventually gave up. Dewbre was charged with second-degree escape and for a multiple count warrant. Bail was set at $100,000.
Undersheriff Brad O’Dell said it is very important to note the Dewbre was not in DCSO custody in court. O’Dell said the escape charge comes from when the judge told him he remanded into custody.
