Roseburg Police jailed a man in a theft case on Friday.

An RPD report said at 10:45 a.m. officers contacted 29-year-old Ryan Copenharve in the 200 block of Northeast Flagg Street during an unrelated incident. They had probable cause to arrest him for his involvement in a prior case where checks and blank money orders were stolen from a business in the 800 block of Southeast Lane Avenue, sometime between August 2nd and August 3rd.

Copenharve was allegedly captured on surveillance footage at Fred Meyer in the 900 block of Northwest Garden Valley Boulevard on the morning of August 3rd, signing his name on one of the stolen money orders worth $1,000, and cashing it at the store. The man received the money and left the store with it. Copenharve admitted to the incident but claimed he didn’t know the money order was stolen. He was taken into custody and transported to corrections.

Copenharve was charged with first-degree counts of theft, forgery and criminal possession of a forged instrument. He was detained without bail.
