Crews with the Douglas Forest Protective Association are actively involved in lightning reconnaissance and initial attack following a morning lightning storm on Monday.

DFPA Public Information Officer Rachel Pope said the storm brought 15 registered lightning strikes in the northern part of the district. Pope said as of late Monday morning, DFPA had responded to three smoke investigations. Of those responses, two are confirmed lightning-caused fires.

*Green Mountain Fire near Drain: DFPA crews are engaged in an aggressive initial attack on an estimated half-acre fire, 2.5 miles northeast of Drain. 2 lightning-struck trees were found, with fire spread to nearby vegetation and timber. Additional resources have been ordered for this fire.

*Boswell Fire near Yoncalla: One single lightning-struck tree fire has been confirmed near the 1000 block of Boswell Road. The estimated 0.25 acre has been knocked down, is 100 percent lined, and is in mop-up status.

Pope said lightning reconnaissance will continue.
