48 LIGHTNING STRIKES, 4 SMOKE INVESTIGATIONS, 2 CONFIRMED FIRES

The Douglas Forest Protective Association has been actively involved in lightning reconnaissance and initial attack following an early morning lightning storm on Friday.

DFPA Public Information Officer Rachel Pope said there were 48 lightning strikes recorded across lands protected by DFPA. Pope said of those lightning strikes, DFPA crews have responded to 4 smoke investigations. Among those, two fires have been confirmed.

*Fate Creek Fire: Estimated at 1.5 acres, approximately 1 mile south of the 12000 block of South Myrtle Road in the Myrtle Creek area. 2 Type 3 engines, 2 Type 6 engines, 1 water tender, 1 dozer, Air Attack, Type 2 helicopter, 1 set of fallers, and additional DFPA ground resources have responded.

*Deadman Fire: 1 lightning struck tree, approximately 19 miles east of Myrtle Creek, nearest to Deadman Creek Road. 1 Type 6 engine has responded.

Pope said lightning reconnaissance will continue throughout the district with additional information to be released later on Friday.
