Sutherlin Police jailed a man for unauthorized use of a motor vehicle early Wednesday.
An SPD report said at 1:30 a.m. an officer overtook a vehicle which was traveling at 87 miles per hour in a 65-mile per-hour zone on Interstate 5 southbound near the Sutherlin exit.
The passenger claimed he sold the vehicle to a Eugene man but never received all his money even though he gave the man the title at the time of the sale. The 53-year-old said he took the vehicle back and then it was reported as stolen. A user amount of methamphetamine was allegedly located in the center area of the vehicle, but the driver claimed it belonged to the passenger.
The passenger was charged with unauthorized use of a motor vehicle and unlawful possession of methamphetamine. He was detained without bail. The driver was cited for speeding.
