Roseburg Police jailed a man for a parole violation and multiple other charges on Friday night.

An RPD report said at 7:30 p.m. officers contacted 29-year-old Joshua Barnes during a traffic stop in the 700 block of Northwest Garden Valley Boulevard. The man was the passenger in the vehicle. Barnes reportedly walked away while officers talked with his probation officer. The PO said she wanted the man detained for failing to report as required.

Barnes allegedly walked back to the vehicle where officers tried to detain him. His hands were forced behind his back, but he reportedly pulled his hands out of the officer’s grip and tried to run. Barnes was forced to the ground where he allegedly fought with officers before being taken into custody.

On Saturday, officers applied for and were granted a search warrant to look at Barnes’ backpack. A loaded .40 caliber handgun with the serial number removed was recovered and the man was charged with additional crimes. That included resisting arrest, second-degree escape, unlawful possession of a firearm and being a felon in possession of a firearm. Barnes was detained without bail.
