MOP UP PROGRESSES ON SUGAR LOAF FIRE

September 1, 2025 4:00 p.m.

Mop up progresses on the Sugar Loaf Fire in the Cottage Grove Ranger District of the Umpqua National Forest, as of midday Monday.

Complex Incident Management Team Northwest 13 transferred operational command of the fire to a local Type 4 Incident Management Team from the National Forest at 7:00 a.m. Monday.

Fire resources are targeting scattered heat within the interior of the fire that may pose a threat to containment. Crews have established a control line 50 feet wide surrounding the fire area and will continue to increase this depth over the coming days. They will also monitor debris rolling along the lower portions of the fire.

Hotter, dry weather will remain in effect until at least mid-week with the possibility of dry thunderstorms.

The Forest is still in high fire danger with level 2 Public Use Restrictions in effect. Fires are only permitted in Forest Service-constructed fire rings and fireplaces in designated sites.
