DFPA TO DECREASE FIRE DANGER LEVEL ON THURSDAY

August 27, 2025 3:40 a.m.

With predicted decreases in temperatures, increases in relative humidity, and better overnight moisture recovery, the Douglas Forest Protective Association will lower the fire danger level from Extreme to High on lands protected by DFPA effective on Thursday.

Public Information Officer Rachel Pope said this applies to all private, county, state, and Bureau of Indian Affairs lands within the Douglas District. Pope said these restrictions are in place to prevent wildfires.

For the public, this means the non-industrial use of power saws, metal cutting, grinding or welding, and cutting, trimming, or mowing dried, cured grass, as well as the use of power-driven machinery for non-industrial improvement or development on private property will only be permitted before 10:00 a.m. or after 8:00 p.m.

The Industrial Fire Precaution Level will remain at Level 3, district wide.

Pope said DFPA is still in fire season and fire danger remains. Residents are urged to recreate responsibly this Labor Day weekend.
