Fort Umpqua Days are happening next weekend on Saturday and Sunday, August 30th and 31st.
A release from the Elkton Community Education Center said the historic fort will be buzzing with hands-on activities and living history demonstrations for the whole family. Inside the fort complex, kids can race through the obstacle course or try their hand with quill pen and ink. Visitors can explore the granary building to learn about the fur trade era, how trappers bartered for supplies, and watch skilled woodworkers in action.
The grounds will be filled with interactive encampments, each offering a glimpse into life in the early 1800s. From fiber arts and quillwork to trapping skills, Indian sign language and Chinook Trade jargon, every camp shares a different piece of frontier know-how.
The event includes live music on the greenhouse patio, other demonstrations and old-fashioned fun.
