The Scenic Fire on the High Cascades Ranger District is now 80 percent contained.
An update from the Rogue River Siskiyou National Forest said the fire, located near National Creek east of Highway 230, was more accurately mapped on Friday and the fire size was reduced to 49 acres. It is burning in dense timber and thick brush. Line has been constructed around 100 percent of the perimeter.
Lower temperatures over the next few days will aid crews as they complete mop-up into the interior. Some resources have been released from the fire as it gets closer to containment.
Firefighting resources are staged strategically across the forest to be ready for any new fire starts. Air and ground reconnaissance is ongoing.
Fire danger on the forest is currently high.
