August 14, 2025 3:50 a.m.

The Scenic Fire near National Creek remains within a 75-acre footprint and is 40 percent contained as of Wednesday evening.

An update from the Rogue River Siskiyou National Forest said the size of the fire was reduced due to more accurate mapping on Wednesday.

Hand line and hose lays have been completed on the north flank of the fire from the Rogue River to Wizard Creek. On the south flank, line has been constructed, and hose lays are installed from the Rogue River to the 6535 road. Heavy equipment, hand crews, and engines are working in challenging terrain with heavy timber and dense understory. Resources on the scene include 15 engines, seven hand crews, including one Hot Shot crew, three dozers, two falling modules, and multiple fixed and rotor wing aircraft.

Motorists should expect travel delays and smoke impacts along Highway 230, also known as the Diamond Lake Highway.
