Roseburg Police cited a man following an incident on Thursday.

An RPD report said at 9:00 am. an officer saw large flames inside of the bus stop near a business in the 1200 block of Northeast Stephens Street. The officer saw a man seated inside the structure holding a magazine that was fully on fire. The officer instructed the man to drop the magazine and stomp out the flames.

His efforts were futile, so the officer instructed him to pour an open beer he had stashed inside of his coat onto the flames, which put the fire out. The man told the officer that he “wanted to make it disappear” when asked why he lit the magazine on fire”.

The 68-year-old was cited for prohibited outdoor burning and drinking in public and then was released.
