NEW WATER SAFETY SIGNS TO BE INSTALLED AT BEN IRVING RESERVOIR

August 8, 2025 2:50 a.m.

The YMCA of Douglas County, in collaboration with Douglas County Parks and FX Signs, will install two new water safety signs at Ben Irving Reservoir on Thursday, August 14th at 10:00 a.m.

A release said the reservoir has been the site of multiple drownings. This initiative aims to raise awareness, keep it a safe and enjoyable recreational area, and prevent future tragedies.

The two new signs will include:

*A “No Swimming” sign to be placed on the dock, reinforcing safety on and around the boat dock

*A Life Jacket Station sign, offering guidance on proper fit and encouraging visitors to take and use a life jacket if they don’t have one

As part of this effort, the YMCA of Douglas County will continue to restock the life jacket station through its annual Free Youth Life Jacket Distribution initiative. To date, the Y has given away more than 3,700 properly fitted life jackets to families across the county to help prevent drowning and promote safe water recreation.

This project is part of the YMCA’s larger Water Safety Mission – to educate, equip, and empower the community to stay safe in and around water.
