The next round of thunderstorms will spread across southern Oregon on Wednesday afternoon and evening. Another round of thunderstorms will develop Thursday afternoon and evening.
A Red Flag Warning is in effect from 2:00 p.m. through 11:00 p.m. Wednesday for a wide area of southern Oregon including the Southern Oregon Cascades, parts of the Rogue Valley, the Umpqua National Forest and surrounding areas, for abundant lightning on dry fuels.
An Urgent Fire Weather Message from the National Weather Service said outflow winds are expected to gust 35 to 50 miles per hour and could travel outward up to 25 miles from thunderstorm cores.
Residents should follow all fire restrictions.
A Red Flag Warning means forecasters have identified weather conditions that promote rapid spread of fire which may become life threatening.
The National Weather Service in Medford has cancelled the Fire Weather Watch for the Umpqua Basin and nearby areas.
