A Myrtle Creek man was jailed following a reported burglary on Tuesday.
A Douglas County Sheriff’s office report said just after 5:30 p.m. deputies responded to the 300 block of Aker Drive in the Myrtle Creek area after a caller said there was a burglary at that location.
During the investigation, a deputy located a wallet that had the suspect’s identification card inside. The 32-year-olds wallet was found at the bottom of a ladder that led to a second story window. At the base of the ladder were miscellaneous coins and jewelry that likely spilled when attempting to get away. Witnesses near the location heard the ladder and what sounded like someone falling from it. Another witness reportedly saw a male who was not wearing a shirt and wearing a hat leaving the area
Deputies located the suspect, who had an active warrant, was not wearing a shirt, and had a hat on when he was contacted. The man eventually admitted to taking the items and led the deputy to where he had hidden them. The recovered items were returned to the victim.
The man was charged with first-degree counts of burglary and theft and for the warrant. He was identified as Cody Stuart. Stuart was detained on $15,000 bail.
