Two transients were jailed after a stolen vehicle was recovered on Thursday.

A Douglas County Sheriff’s Office report said just before 11:00 a.m. a deputy located the vehicle being driven on West Harvard Avenue in Roseburg and knew it was stolen. The deputy followed the sedan and waited for additional deputies when the vehicle stopped abruptly in the middle of the 2000 block of Northwest Stewart Parkway.

A 44-year man was detained out of the driver’s seat. A 21-year-old man was taken into custody from the passenger seat. The investigation showed that a family member of the victim had allowed the older man to borrow the sedan, but it was well overdue to be returned. The suspect had allegedly made almost no attempt to bring it back to the owner. Both men admitted to knowing the car should have been returned already.

Each was charged with unauthorized use of a motor vehicle and possession of a stolen vehicle. They were detained without bail and were released on Friday.
