Roseburg drivers should expect delays or use alternate routes when roadwork and sidewalk ramp replacements begin on a key stretch of Northwest Garden Valley Boulevard on Monday, July 28th, and then continue to Northwest Stewart Parkway.

A city release said heavy daytime traffic and delays are expected on weekdays during a month-long project to replace sidewalk ramps and later repave the roadway on a three-block section of Garden Valley Boulevard from Northwest Mulholland Drive to Northwest Fairmont Street.

Just east of Interstate 5, eastbound traffic will be funneled into one lane from June 28th through August 16th and westbound from Augus 18th through August 28th. While road crews are expected to work from 6:00 a.m.to 5:00 p.m. weekdays, one lane will be shut down 24-7 first in one direction and then in the other.

The center lane will remain open for turning. Drivers and pedestrians are asked to watch for lane-closure signs and use caution when traveling through work zones. Sidewalks will be closed when the ramps are being replaced. Pedestrians will need to use alternate routes and follow temporary signage.

The release said in late August, moderate delays and increased traffic are expected when the project moves to Stewart Parkway between Garden Valley Boulevard and Renann Street. Sidewalk ramp replacements and paving will be done from August 28th through October 20th.

Paving on both sections of roadway will take place overnight in mid to late October. Businesses on Garden Valley Boulevard and Stewart Parkway will remain accessible and their driveways will stay open throughout the project.

Roseburg Public Works hired local contractor Guido Construction to replace 25 sidewalk or “curb” ramps and then repave and restripe the roadway. New striping on Stewart Parkway will allow for a wider bike lane.

As part of the roadway improvements, the project will make the ramps compliant with Title II of the Americans with Disabilities Act.
