Roseburg Police jailed a man after a reported elude incident early Saturday.
An RPD report said at 1:00 a.m. officers attempted to stop a sedan for several traffic violations near the intersection of Southeast Douglas Avenue and Southeast Jackson Street, and the driver eluded. Officers pursued the vehicle over the Washington Avenue bridge at which point the driver turned off their lights and reportedly reached speeds of over 100 miles per hour.
Officers terminated the pursuit at this time. Officers later received a tip that the suspect vehicle was parked on Oleta Court and officers found the vehicle unoccupied. After an area search, the 21-year-old driver was located a short distance away. He was taken into custody without incident. The driver admitted to the officer that he had eluded because he was scared to get a citation.
He was charged with attempting to elude a police officer in a vehicle and reckless driving. The man was detained without bail.
