The Douglas Forest Protective Association has the final update on the Round Top Fire.
On Sunday, DFPA, along with Central Douglas Fire & Rescue, Roseburg Fire Department, Glide Rural Fire Protection District and landowner resources responded to the fast-moving, wind-driven vegetation fire near the 10000 block of North Umpqua Highway, east of Roseburg.
DFPA Public Information Officer Rachael Pope said upon arriving at the scene, crews found a 3 to 5-acre grass fire on a ridgetop that was spreading up a tree line. Pope said an immediate, aggressive attack by all ground and aerial resources was launched, stopping the fire’s forward spread and limiting its growth to 10 acres. The fire was fully lined and fully plumbed as of early Monday afternoon. By this time it was 55 percent mopped up.
Pope said smoke may be visible in the area as crews continue mop-up progress. The cause of the Round Top Fire is under investigation. Fire season information is available at www.dfpa.net
