Sutherlin Police jailed a man for unlawful use of a weapon early Sunday.

An SPD report said just after 12:05 a.m. dispatch advised of the report of a disturbance and a gunshot near the intersection of Grant Street and West Second Avenue. A 19-year-old man was contacted and admitted to firing one shot from a pistol up in the air after a verbal altercation with a victim.

A shell casing was found in the road on Grant Street near Second Avenue and a pistol was recovered from the suspect. He was detained without bail.
