Crews with the Douglas Forest Protective Association continue to make progress on the Doe Hollow Fire in the Days Creek area.
DFPA Acting Public Information Officer Nic Freeman said on Thursday night around 7:00 p.m. firefighters responded to a natural cover fire estimated to be 40 acres near Doe Hollow Road, Freeman said on arrival, the fire was found to be burning on private land in a unit with five to ten-year-old reproduction trees and slash. DFPA responded with seven engines, a water tender, a dozer and fire-line supervision. DFPA requested two twenty-person contract crews to help with fire-line construction and mop-up. Freeman said DFPA has the fire 100 percent tightlined and there is minimal threat to additional fire growth.
DFPA is in command of the fire and currently has assigned three type 6 engines, two twenty-person hand crews, one tender, and one dozer. DFPA will be working 24 hours with a day and night shift over the weekend to ensure that the fire is mopped up to 100 percent.
The cause of the Doe Hollow Fire is under investigation.
Freeman said this fire serves as a reminder to the public that even with the rain showers the month of May brought, the possibilities of wildland fires still exist. Over the Memorial Day weekend, residents should be sure they are responsible with campfires and recreational activities.
