A Winston man died in a two-vehicle wreck on Thursday night, with the second driver in jail on manslaughter and other charges.
A Winston Police Department report released on Monday said shortly after 10:10 p.m. officers and deputies from the Douglas County Sheriff’s Office responded to the crash at the intersection of Main Street and Lookingglass Road.
22-year-old Jacob Haga was in a vehicle which was struck by a second vehicle, driven by 42-year-old Kristina Stafford, also of Winston. Haga was pronounced deceased at the scene.
The report said Stafford was allegedly driving south on Main Street at a high rate of speed and allegedly showed signs of impairment. She was transporting a friend and her two juvenile children. Stafford and her passengers were transported to CHI Mercy Medical Center. The passengers were released after being evaluated. Stafford sustained injuries but was later released from the hospital.
On Saturday, Stafford was arrested and taken to jail. She has been charged with second-degree counts of manslaughter and assault, three-counts of recklessly endangering another person, driving under the influence of intoxicants, and reckless driving. Stafford was detained without bail.
