Two mobile homes, two vehicles and multiple sheds burned in a fire on Friday afternoon in Sutherlin.
Information released by the Sutherlin Fire Department on Tuesday, said just before 4:30 p.m. firefighters were dispatched to a report of a shed on fire at the Soft Winds Mobile Home Park, in the 400 block of North Comstock Road. While SFD apparatus was enroute, dispatch advised that multiple callers had reported a working structure fire.
Upon arrival, firefighters immediately went into a defensive mode, working to keep the fire from spreading any further. Firefighters extinguished multiple spot fires in the area throughout the incident.
The fire was brought under control within 45 minutes and firefighters continued to overhaul the scene for multiple hours. In total SFD responded with three fire engines, two brush rigs, and two chief officers for a total of 18 Sutherlin firefighters.
SFD received automatic mutual aid from Oakland Fire District, Fair Oaks Fire District, and Central Douglas Fire and Rescue. In addition, Sutherlin Police, Sutherlin Public Works, Roseburg Police, the Douglas County Sheriff’s Office, Umpqua Valley Ambulance, Pacific Power and Avista Gas also assisted at the scene.
No firefighters were injured during this incident. However, one civilian was evaluated on the scene for injuries. Multiple pets perished in the fire, with one cat being rescued by firefighters.
The cause of the fire is under investigation. Any questions regarding the fire should go to the Oregon State Fire Marshal’s office.
