A Roseburg area man was charged with initiating a false report early Saturday morning.

Information from the Douglas County Sheriff’s Office said just before 2:00 a.m. the 19-year-old reported that his vehicle had been stolen from the 4000 block of Melody Lane in the Green District.

At around the same time, Oregon State Police responded to a crash involving the man’s vehicle but found no occupants in the area. The man later admitted to being in the car when it wrecked and said he reported it stolen so his insurance did not increase. He was detained without bail.
