A transient was jailed following a late-night rock throwing spree on Friday.
A Douglas County Sheriff’s Office report said at 11:00 p.m. several callers reported that windows on their homes were being damaged by an unknown man throwing rocks. This took place on Northwest Broad Street and Northwest Mercy Hills Drive in Roseburg.
As a Roseburg Police officer arrived, the man, later identified as 42-year-old Kelly Horton, threw something at their patrol vehicle. Horton then ran towards a DCSO patrol vehicle, where he was soon taken into custody.
Eight different victims reported that Horton had damaged their homes or vehicles. In total, Horton caused an estimated $4,500 in damages. At one home that Horton allegedly threw a rock into, he almost struck a man in the head.
Horton was transported to CHI Mercy Medical Center by RPD. He reportedly caused self-harm in the back of the vehicle by being combative. Horton had several staples placed before being cleared from Mercy.
Horton was charged with first-degree criminal mischief, 7 counts of second-degree criminal mischief, 8 counts of second-degree criminal trespass, and recklessly endangering another person. Horton was detained without bail.
