An Azalea man died in a single vehicle accident on Monday afternoon.

Information released by the Douglas County Sheriff’s Office Wednesday morning said at 12:20 p.m. 71-year-old Mark Hanson was driving from his residence and for an unknown reason, his sedan crashed into a power pole near the intersection of Woodpath Lane and Eakin Road in the Azalea area.

Hanson was not wearing a seatbelt and sustained fatal injuries. The Medical Examiner’s office responded. Next of kin was notified. A towing company took possession of the vehicle.
