ROSEBURG POLICE JAIL MAN ON FORGERY CHARGES FOR JANUARY CASE

Roseburg Police jailed a man on forgery charges on Sunday.

An RPD report said 4:40 p.m. officers contacted 40-year-old James January at his camp in the 200 block of Southeast Pine Street. January’s camp consisted of a large tent which was tied up to a nearby tree and was found to be in violation of the time, place and manner ordinance. During the contact, officers discovered that January was a suspect in a forgery case from January of this year.

Officers questioned January and he reportedly admitted attempting to cash a fraudulent check. He was taken into custody without incident. January was charged with first-degree forgery, identity theft and first-degree criminal possession of a forged instrument. He was detained without bail. January was cited and released for prohibited camping.
