A wanted Roseburg man who ran from law enforcement was taken into custody with the assistance of Douglas County Sheriff’s Office K9 Eros on Wednesday evening.

Reports from DCSO and the Roseburg Police Department said shortly before 6:00 p.m. an RPD officer observed 20-year-old Kai Preston Valente walking on Southeast Pine Street and knew he was wanted by his parole officer. The officer attempted to stop Valente, who reportedly took off running, despite being told that he was under arrest.

Valente attempted to hide under a bridge, with a steep embankment below him. DCSO K9 Eros was dispatched to the incident. The man allegedly continued to be non-compliant, ignoring numerous law enforcement commands. After multiple warnings about the presence of the dog and what would happen if he was released, KI Eros was deployed and took control of Valente who was taken into custody.

Valente was transported to CHI Mercy Medical Center to be medically evaluated. He was later taken to corrections. Valente was charged with third-degree escape and a parole violation. He was detained on $6,250 bail.
