The Douglas County Sheriff’s Office has made a Level III Sex Offender Notification to the public.
Undersheriff Brad O’Dell said 46-year-old Uriah Shawn Strauss was released from the Douglas County Jail on Wednesday per court order.
O’Dell said a Level III Sex Offender is defined as having the highest risk of reoffending and is subject to public notification. Strauss has convictions for Sex Abuse 1, and Attempted Rape 1.
O’Dell said Strauss may not knowingly communicate in any manner with a person under 18 years of age with the intent to commit a crime or for the purpose of arousing or satisfying the sexual desires of this individual or another person. This individual may not knowingly enter or remain in or upon premises where persons under 18 years of age regularly congregate. This includes schools, childcare centers, playgrounds or other places intended for use primarily by persons under 18 years of age and places where persons under 18 years of age gather for regularly scheduled education and recreational programs.
O’Dell said in the past Strauss has requested assistance from women unknown to him and stalked them. Strauss targeted females, in public places, where he detained and attempted to sexually assault them. Targeted victims were adult and juvenile females.
The notification said in the past, Strauss has contacted women through various means and stalked them at their place of work, by phone. U.S. mail, and e-mail. On two occasions, Strauss attempted to kidnap adult females for the purpose of sexual assault. Strauss also attempted to contact women through social media, phonebook records, advertisements, and utilized personal information from magazines that were donated that did not have the address label removed.
O’Dell said residents should report any misconduct or violations to law enforcement at Douglas County Communications by calling 440-4471.
