Roseburg Police jailed a man Saturday for an alleged prior robbery incident.

An RPD report said on March 8th the 38-year-old Eugene man allegedly stole two pair of boots from a store in the 700 block of Northeast Garden Valley Boulevard. An off-duty RPD officer witnessed the incident, announced himself, and followed the suspect.

The man reportedly stomped on the officer’s foot and tried to punch the officer when he tried to detain him. The suspect then fled the scene in a vehicle. An officer learned the suspect was in jail on a separate case. The man was contacted at corrections but refused to speak on the matter. He was charged with third-degree robbery and second-degree theft. The man remained detained without bail.
